When I first started working with Nan she told me my work reminded her of Kintsugi, the art of precious scars. It's a traditional Japanese art in which broken pottery is repaired with gold or silver. When something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful.
 
How we take on what the world throws at us shows as scars we fear and hide, or as brave gold lines and accents in the landscapes of our lives.
